Quick Hits Vol. I
Capture Clark County launched a little more than three months ago. In three short months, Southwest Washington photographers have submitted more than 5,000 photos and local folks have cast more than 150,000 votes for their favorites. What a great start!
As a part of the Capture Clark County experience, our editors will select photos from time to time and feature them in a showcase like you see here. A showcase is a digital publication of a collection of photos curated by our editors. Often showcases will follow a particular theme, but for this one we're calling it "Quick Hits Vol. I" and featuring a few of our favorite submissions from the first three months of the project. Enjoy!

Views From the Top
Shooting sunrise from the summit of Mt St Helens I was drawn in to the layers of hills and mountains. I shot this telephoto view looking towards the Goat Rocks area. In my database I have this in the Abstract/Pattern category so I'll stick with that here :-) Nikon F5, Velvia film.

Cruisin'
This was the last day that the drive up BurgerVille was open downtown Vancouver. We Drove the '57 and had ice cream to celebrate a landmark and say goodbye to my Dad's old high school hangout.

We still have a fair amount of fall color around. I finally took a few moments away from my project to go to my girlfriend's house and get some birds in her tree. (autumn, fall, color, leaf, junco, bird) For more of my photos visit my website.

Holiday Cannons at the Reserve
These cannons are a mainstay of the Fort Vancouver Historic Reserve. This shot in the fog at Christmas time was erie. It looked as if the cannons were standing ready for an advancing enemy.

Interstate Inversion
The I-5 bridge is an iconic part of the landscape in southwest Washington. Its arched back and green-painted steel connects Oregon and Washington, and is a vital artery in the economy of the area. I have loved this bridge since I moved to Vancouver as a young boy, both for it's color and it's engineering. Watching that span lift for barges and sail-boats while sitting in the park along the river is one of my earliest memories of living here, and makes up an important part of the visual and cultural lanscape of downtown Vancouver. This was taken during the week long inversion in the spring of 2011. My daughter and I woke up early to go get an image that I have always wanted to get:: the bridge in the fog. The straight, muscular lines of the bridge fading in to the distance make the bridge seem like something out of time.
